Concept
In Khmer, "Tel Toal" refers to a state of being that serves no purpose in life. Eggs are normally placed in water to determine whether or not they are fertile. A "Tel Toal life is one in which a person is helpless, homeless, and impoverished. This piece was inspired by the story of an elderly lady who lives near the creator's home. The lady has no children and is extremely poor, unhealthy, and malnourished. She got infected with COVID-19 as a result of her poor health, and she sadly passed away later on. In addition to showing that everyone eventually ages and that, if we are not prepared for it now, we will end up like her, the artist hopes to offer a contemporary perspective on the problems that the elderly face.
