Concept
This painting captures the complex history of the artist's family's journey through hardship and resilience. Faced with debt and limited opportunities for livelihood, the artist's parents took a courageous step. They moved their two children away from the warmth of their home to seek work in the unfamiliar terrain of the Dangrek Mountains and the border region. The family's odyssey took an unexpected turn when the emergence of COVID-19 forced them to return to Battambang. Over these 14 years, they have experienced a tapestry of highs and lows. Yet, much like the vivid colors in this artwork, the positive memories are the ones chosen to be carried forward. These memories fuel the family's ongoing quest for a better life, a brighter future, and opportunities for quality education and fulfilling employment
